Where do we begin? Well, it all started back in the early 2010s when Derek was out and about working with schools to adopt contemporary learning practices, when he stumbled upon a young, spirited teacher named Mel—someone with big ideas and an even bigger drive to transform education.

Over the years, our paths kept crossing in the Lutheran education system. Mel was climbing the leadership ranks, making waves in schools across the country, and eventually stepping into the role of Principal at a P-12 multi-campus college. Meanwhile, Derek was out in the world, supporting schools across Australia (and beyond) in their journey toward contemporary transformation. To say Derek knows everyone is an understatement! Whenever we had the chance to work together, there was always laughter, plenty of brainstorming, and a shared passion for reimagining education.

Then, in 2024, over a coffee (because all the best ideas start with caffeine), we had a thought—what if we combined our experience, energy, and ideas? After years of consulting separately, we realised that together, we could be an even greater force for change. And just like that, The EduShift Collective was born.

​

Now, whether we’re sipping lattes, testing out the latest gin varieties, Mel keeping Derek on track, or Derek coming up with weird and wacky ideas, one thing remains constant—we’re a powerhouse team on a mission. We believe in transforming education to truly meet the needs of today’s (and tomorrow’s) learners.
